Why Is The Devil Represented As A Woman In The Passion Of The Christ?
I’m writing a presentation on how the devil is represented in the media. Any help with the above question? Or if you have no clue, can you give me suggestions on other movies that include the devil/satan? Thank you!

I think the character was intended to be androgynous–not specifically female. Presumably because the devil is neither male or female. I’m guessing, Gibson didn’t want to feed into either stereotype and wanted instead to show a devil that’s flexible and is not bound by human preconceived notions.
lots of other movies:
The Last Temptation of Christ
Bedazzled–original is male; remake is female
The Exorcist
The Devil and Daniel Webster–really good older movie taking the Faust storyline–50s or 60s
Legend
The Ninth Gate
South Park
lots of Twilight Zone episodes: Printer’s Devil, The Howling Man, A Nice Place to Visit, and Escape Clause
